Today, on September 23rd, the aircraft carrier “Vikramaditya” is again back at Sevmash after partial completion of sea trials. The sea trials participants, i.e. yard’s commissioning team, Russian and Indian crews, RAC “MIG” experts were triumphantly saluted ashore by senior representatives of United Shipbuilding Corporation, Sevmash, Northern Fleet and Client’s representatives, Indian Naval Forces.

Having passed the marine “exam” the ship is now back at Sevmash to eliminate a number of malfunctions of equipment and machinery revealed in the course of sea trials. Ship systems and machinery, aviation facilities and etc. were checked for operability in the White and Barents Seas. MiG 29 KUB, K aircrafts, KA-27 and Ka-31 helicopters with landing onto the aircraft carrier passed the tests to satisfaction.
“I would like to thank you Sevmash commissioning team, GAC ‘MIG” experts and Russian crew for those efforts they put into construction and sea trials of the ship. We performed plenty of tests and a part of them is still ahead. Hope they’ll take place right after debugging and the ship will put out to sea again. We believe that finally India will get a good ship”, – told the Client’s representative, Rear Admiral of Indian Naval Forces, Mr. Hari Kumar.
The ship put out to sea on 8th June. The maximum speed reached by the aircraft carrier during the sea trials was 27,9 knots. “Vikramaditya” is the first experience of Sevmash in constructing surface ships of such class. As the commissioning team note the ship demonstrated excellent sensitivity and brilliant seagoing qualities. “At the moment I feel deep satisfaction from the job performed by Sevmash experts, its numerous partners involved in testing of aircraft carrier systems. The most sophisticated and tricky part of the tests has been perfectly completed i.e. aviation facilities, plenty of radioelectronic systems and their interface, – noted Andrei Dyachkov, President of JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation”. – Elimination of the defects revealed during the sea trials is currently ahead of us, in particular those related to the boiler plant. The work ahead is clear for our specialists. The main conclusion drawn is that the ship has proved herself to be the aircraft carrier”.
